The Kumasi Campus of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) chapter of the Old Students Association of Mampong College of Technical Education formerly Mampong Technical Teacher’s College (MATTCOSA) has organized interschool quiz competition to promote technical education and to project UEW-K as one of the institution mandated to train teachers in TVET.
The quiz competition which took place recently was in line with objective 12: “Improve Branding and Visibility of the University” of the UEW Corporate Strategic Plan 2014-2018.
The Basic Design Technology (BDT) quiz competition was between streams A and B of, Anglican Junior High school which happened to be the same vicinity with the University of Education, Winneba Kumasi. This was to help the students have a fair idea and change of perception about technical education.

A lecturer at UEW-K and patron of the Association, Mr. Raphael Zakpasu speaking on the theme: “Regaining positive attitude towards Technical Education” encouraged the students to adopt optimistic approach towards technology education.
He cited countries such as China, Japan among others as having developed through the priority and the positive attitude they gave to Technical Education. He said Technical Education was essential to the industrial growth of every economy; therefore Ghanaians must show commitment to Technical and Vocational Education to push the nation’s agenda for development.

The Headmistress of the stream (A) school, Mrs. Salome Adu could not hide her joy for the excellent performance put up by her students. She thanked the organizes for organizing such an educative programme. She appealed to other benevolent organization and associations to emulate “MATTCOSA’s example. She implored for such a programme to be organized quarterly to develop student’s interest in the subject.
The chairman of MATTCOSSA, Eugene Bediako stressed that as a country we needed to change our attitude towards Technical Education to help in the socio-economic development and growth of the nation.
The second edition of the competition has also been staged on the University campus among three basic schools in the catchment area of the University. The chairman for the occasion was the head of department, Department of Construction and Wood Education, Mr. Michael Tsorgali.
In attendance were the Coordinator, Mynd FM, Mr. Abraham Attoh and his team reporters.
