Railways Development Minister has awakened the entrepreneurial spirit within students of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) with a call on them to believe in themselves and set up businesses of their own.
Speaking at the launch of the SRC Week celebration of the Institute, Joe Ghartey said there can be no greater satisfaction than working for oneself.
Giving a personal testimony Mr Ghartey said until he became a Member of Parliament in 2004 he did not remember the last time he took a salary from any institution or company.
After working briefly in the Akufo-Addo, Prempeh and Co chambers, a law firm owned by the president, Ghartey left in 1994 and co-founded the law firm Ghartey & Ghartey with his wife, a woman he met at Akufo-Addo’s chambers.
There he worked until he became a Member of Parliament in 2004. He was made the Attorney General under the erstwhile Kufuor administration and now the Minister for Railways Development charged with the responsibility of transforming the Railway sector.
Speaking on the theme “The candidate that fits into the career world,” Ghartey charged the GIMPA students to believe in themselves and follow their passion with endurance.
He later launched the SRC Constitution and signed the first copy. The launch of the week-long celebration is the beginning of a thoroughly educative and exciting events which include, the Branding and Counseling session, football competition and an artiste night featuring some of Ghana’s greatest music artistes.
