A new students union, The Eastern Region Students Union of University of Ghana (ERSU), that seeks to bring together students from the Eastern Region of Ghana has been founded and registered by student, Gabriel Opare.
Gabriel, upon realising that almost all regions of Ghana have representative student unions on campus, decided that the Eastern region that houses some of the best secondary schools in Ghana, certainly deserved to also be represented well in the university by way of a student union.
One can confidently say that the Volta Region Students’ Association, Brong Ahafo Students Union, Ga-Adangbe Students Union, and Northern Students Union now exercise a great deal of influence on campus. Gabriel thought it was high time students from the Eastern Region did so too.
ERSU for short was instituted and endorsed by the Dean of Student Affairs of University of Ghana, and its activities on campus are now legitimate. Gabriel as default founding president appointed, late last semester, nine executives to help him raise awareness about the club and also get new members to join. Next semester, they will step down to make way for the first elected executives of the union.
A call is therefore being made to all Eastern Region students to join this worthy cause to collectively fight for their interest on UG campus.
