The judicial board of UG-SRC on Saturday afternoon accepted counsel for applicant (Alfred Ababio Kumi’s) plea to withdraw the suit he filed challenging his disqualification from this year’s SRC Presidential race.

Counsel for applicant initially prayed the court to stay proceedings and allow Kumi and his running mate be vetted provisionally pending thier(applicants) meeting with the dean of students, to clarify issues with him, but the five member panel precided over by Chief Justice (CJ) Asiedu will have none of that, as they saw a further delay in the electoral process to be inimical to students’ interest.
Counsel for Kumi then moved for a withdrawal of the suit, an action agreed upon by they(counsel for applicants) and the respondents (Legal Advisor and Electoral Commissioner) after a ten minute recess granted them by the bench.
The panel unanimously approved of their decision to withdraw the suit.
IMPLICATIONS OF WHAT TRANSPIRED IN COURT AS EXPLAINED BY CJ ASIEDU
TO UGFILE
1. The interim injunction placed on the electoral process has been lifted so the Vetting Committee can go ahead to vet qualified aspirants.
2. The provincial vetting applied for by counsels of Kumi has been denied.
3. In a conversation that ensued between CJ Asiedu and the Dean of student affairs after court today, the Dean still stands by his decision that Alfred Ababio Kumi and Emmanuel Boadi are disqualified and also He(Dean of student affairs) will issue another communique to clear Maame Serwah to contest the General Secretary portfolio since it was a clerical error that omitted her name.
4. The judicial board therefore does not approve of and has nothing whatsoever to do with any provisional vetting carried out by the vetting committee, which will purport to give Alfred Kumi and his running mate the opportunity to participate.
